Collected: Interviews

I interviewed five collectors to add contextual depth to my project about collecting. I interviewed: Tim: a trainspotter with over twenty thousand slides of trains, Roy: a trader of stamps at Stampex, Tony: an artist, educator and collector of Indian oil lamps (among many other things), Vi: a teddy bear collector, and Karen: a Paul McCartney enthusiast and collector.

Within the interviews there were many illustrations of the concepts and ideas I was interested in: acquisition, display, completion, etc. Thus a research process became an outcome and I resolved to create a book. The book shows the direct transcripts of the interviews and highlights key quotes from them. Images are also shown to provide further contextual depth and visual interest. At the beginning of each interview there are relevant academic quotes which provide a foundation for understanding the interview. These sit alongside details of how the interview came about, allowing for a narrative to be formed.
